BEAR AWAKENING

Baylor University, Waco, TX

Awakening is a Retreat for College Students based loosely on the Cursillo and Search programs.  It is open to any denomination and is centered on the Catholic Teachings.  It is a three day retreat involving talks, activities, small group discussions, Mass, reconciliation and much more.  It is a great way to meet life-long friends as well as re-awaken a sense of God’s love for each and every one of us.

History of Awakening

The first Awakening retreat was held in 1974 at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In 1983, LSU gave the Awakening to the Aggies at Texas A&M University, which is likely the largest, continuously-running Awakening retreat program in the country (they have had 70+ consecutive Aggie Awakenings!). Awakening is currently running in about 20 universities in the U.S.  St. Peter's Catholic Student Center at Baylor University sent a group of students to A&M to learn about the Awakening in fall 2001. History was made at our first retreat in the spring of 2003.
